Jerry Bywaters

American, (1906–1989)


Jerry Bywaterswas born in Paris, Texas in 1906. He attended the Southern Methodist University, the Dallas Art Institute, and the Art Students League of New York. Bywaters created landscapes, still lifes, portrait paintings, and lithographic prints and murals. He was a faculty member of Southern Methodist University and an art director of the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts. In 1933, Art Digest recognized him as an artist of national importance. His artwork is exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Metropolitan Museumof Art, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. He died in Dallas, Texas in 1989.
